004 The Lesson of GPS
One of the most foundational truths about God's nature is that he is love. His love is the backdrop behind everything he does.
God correcting us is a clear expression of that love. God's correction is always for our benefit. Human parents, despite their best intentions, can sometimes correct their children out of frustration or for their own convenience and benefit. But because God is love, his correction is always motivated by what is best for us.
His love also means he does not keep a record of our failures or hold our mistakes against us. When we ignore his direction or take a wrong turn, he doesn't shame us or dwell on where we went wrong. Instead, he redirects us toward the destination he knows is best.
In that sense, GPS provides a beautiful picture of God's heart. When you miss a turn, the GPS doesn't stop to remind you of your mistake. It simply recalculates the route and continues guiding you toward the destination.
God’s direction is much the same. He doesn't define us by our wrong turns or dwell on our mistakes. He faithfully directs and then redirects us, always leading us toward what he knows is best for our lives.
