006 What are You Seeking?

God is the supplier of the needs of man. Knowing this truth, some have been moved to seek the blessings and goodness of God. But this is deceptive! Scripture guides us away from seeking these things: expect them, yes, seek them, no!

Jesus addressed this in Matthew chapter 6 in verses 25 to 34 where he speaks of not worrying about your needs being met through you seeking these provisions. Then he adds in verse 32, "For the nations eagerly seek all these things, for your heavenly father knows that you need all these things." He follows this with the correction, "but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you."

The correction is to stop seeking the things which our heavenly father knows we have in need of. Instead, Jesus directed his followers to seek God's Kingdom and righteousness, which unlocks the floodgate of God's provision of the things we need.

The first Psalm speaks the same truth in different words. It speaks of how “blessed is the man who… delights in the word of Jehovah, and in his word he meditates day and night.” This correlates with seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness in Matthew 6. Then the Psalm speaks of the result: "he will be like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither, and in whatever he does he prospers."

The wisdom of God's Scriptures directs us to not seek the blessings, but the blesser, his kingdom, and his righteousness. The blessings will follow like streams of water after a hard rain.
